Lars got his dream machine – a custom-built bio combi
Datum: 09 October 2018
A new combi is born
When Lars Ferlingen was about to buy his first forest machine, what he was looking for was not available on the market. The solution was a custom-built machine, designed entirely around Lars’s needs. In September, “Terri’s Bio Combi with all the extras” was delivered to Norra Mölla in Frenninge, Skåne.
What requirements did you have for your machine?
– First of all, we wanted a machine that is gentle on nature. I have been in the agriculture and contracting business for more than 40 years and have seen how often the ground is damaged by machines.
– Another requirement was that it should be small. Where we live, in the middle of Skåne, there is no tradition of such machines, but I have felt that a small, agile machine is what is needed as a complement to the larger ones.
Tell us how your machine came about.
– We contacted Terri and they were very accommodating. Since they did not have a machine that directly suited our purposes, they designed a unique one for us. In the end it became a combi machine, but our very own: a well-equipped forwarder with, among other things, harvester levers and a bio harvester head.
How will you use it?
– For both forestry and agriculture. We have natural pastures that need to be kept in good condition, field edges that need tidying up, and then we have forest land to manage. A lot of it is about biofuel. Everything that is to be chipped – that is where this machine really comes into its own. Work in broadleaved forests and wetlands, for example alder swamps.
Several of you in the family are involved in the purchase?
– Yes, all three of my sons are interested, and my eldest son works in the company. So I think we will all be driving it.
What will the first job be?
– We will start on our own pastures and do the field edges. Then we will use it in the forest as well, both in our own forest and in other people’s.
Are you satisfied?
– Very. Considering that our area has many special areas with some form of nature protection, as well as forests close to towns, this machine is perfect because it does not damage the ground. And who knows, in a few years small machines might be the norm here too…
